Sony A7 IV
In 2022 I made a change from being a long standing Canon shooter and moved to Sony with this. Put simply, full frame, plenty of resolution and a joy to take images with - I love this thing!
-
Sony 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS
As an aviation photographer first, this lens is vital to ensure I get close enough to anything in the air. Sharp throughout the zoom range, you won’t find me anywhere near aircraft without this in my kit - it weighs a ton though.
-
Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 AF DG DN Art
Why not buy the Sony equivalent? Simply, it is twice the price but not twice the performance. This is the go to for all disciplines, a great lens from Sigma and at f/2.8 any lack of light is no issue. It is heavy though…
-
Sony 1.4x Teleconverter
You here a lot about these things and their ability to seemingly hamper image quality. I’m please to report that from the limited use I’ve had with this teleconverter I have been really impressed! Extra reach, no quality loss - win!
-
Sony FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS
This lens was actually the kit lens that came with the A7 IV when I bought it. As far as kit lenses go, this is one of the better ones I’ve used. It still has a place here as a back-up should anything go wrong with the Sigma.

Vanguard Veo Active 53
I really believe I’ve found ‘the perfect bag’ here. At least for my field. This bag has a dedicated camera cube that is removable, and a huge compartment at the top for non-photo gear. Also has all the extra pockets you’ll ever need!
-
LowePro ProTactic BP 450 AWII
In short, whenever I need my 200-600, this is the bag I take. It is big enough to have that lens attached with the hood and body so I’m always ready to shoot. One thing this lacks is space for anything other than camera gear.
-
LowePro FlipSide Trek BP 350 AW
Smaller than the ProTactic, this bag has literally travelled halfway round Europe with me. It won’t carry the 200-600 but it will carry everything else. My favourite things about this are the size and the separate storage at the top.
-
Peak Design Capture Clip V3
This little bit of genius design is a game changer. The plate is always on my camera and the clip is always on my left bag strap. This is all about accessibility, having my camera ready at a moments notice ensures I don’t miss a shot.
-
Peak Design Slide Camera Strap
I’ve never been a fan of camera straps, however they do serve a purpose. This strap means I do not always have to have it attached, I can pick and choose thanks to the quick release toggles. Yes, it is usually used with the 200-600…

MacBook Pro 16" 2019
Often PCs/laptops are not included within gear pages. However without this, you probably wouldn’t be reading this in the first place! This is the workhorse to cover the all important post-processing. It works and is portable, win!

iPhone 13 Pro
iPhone on a gear page? Yep! The importance of this shouldn’t be overlooked. I can share photos and videos from anywhere in the world instantly. Used for all socials and actually, the 4K 60fps video on this is awesome!
